Valerie A. Toombs, 76

Valerie A.Toombs, 76, of Fort Calhoun, died Friday, December 21, 2012.

Services will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday, January 19, at the First Congregational Church in Uehling. Interment will be in the Baptist Cemetery in Uehling.

After the interment, the family will be available to receive condolences at the Clarion Inn restaurant in Fremont.

Valerie Ann Strand was born February 3, 1936, in Fremont, to Lawrence and Eva Strand.

She graduated from Republican City High School in 1954, and went on to graduate from Flight Attendant School.

After a brief stint in the air, she worked in numerous executive assistant roles over the years. She retired from Douglas County Environmental Services in Omaha.

She is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Ken and Trish Garner of Bradenton, Fla., Lawrence Bradley Garner of Nebraska, Jay Ropka of Pahrump, Nevada, and Ricky and Teri Ropka of Kansas City, Mo.; daughters and sons-in-law, Kim Robinson of Tijeras, N.M., and Mickey and Sam Akins of Highland Village, Texas; 10 grandchildren, Kyle, Bryan, Kala and Tara Garner, Rebecca Ropka, Zachary and Zander Ropka, Stephen and Nikki Robinson and Samantha Akins; and one great-grandchild, Chloe.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Leonard Strand.
