Richard A. Beck, of 16800 West Dodge Road, Omaha, was killed Wednesday evening, September 2, about 6:30 p.m. when his car went off a county gravel road north of Arlington and into a creek. Beck suffered a broken neck and internal injuries and was pronounced dead on arrival at the Dodge County Hospital.

The accident occurred on the “bottom road” which runs north from the east edge of Arlington, at a point about two miles north of the village. At this point the road is straight, with a bridge over Bell Creek. The bridge is full width, but the gravel is slightly wider than the bridge on the east side of the road.

Beck, alone in the car, driving north apparently did not notice the narrowing of the roadway and drove off the east side into the creek. When the accident was reported, the Arlington Rescue Squad was summoned and took Beck to the Dodge County Hospital in Fremont.

The Washington County Motors later towed the car, a 1965 Chevrolet, to Blair as it had extensive damage to the front end from striking the creek bank.

The accident was investigated by Patrolman Carroll Kleve and Arlington Marshal Chris Archer.
