Edward Harvey Williams, 64

Services for Edward Harvey Williams, 64 of Decatur, Illinois, who died June 12, 1995 of cancer were Wednesday, June 21 at Westminster Presbyterian Church.

Edward Harvey Williams was born September 24, 1930 in Omaha, the son of Charles Chauncey and Annabella Williams. He graduated from Missouri Valley High School in Missouri Valley, Iowa and received his bachelor of science in electrical engineering from the University of Iowa after serving in the United States Air Force.

He married Margaret R. Jipp of Blair June 29, 1951. They moved to Cedar Rapids, Iowa where he was employed at Iowa Electric.

In 1967, he joined Central Iowa Power Coop and became executive vice president and general manager of Soyland Power Coop. He retired in January, 1991.

During his career in the rural electrification business, he made many significant contributions in both Iowa and Illinois. He received the Nikola Tesla Award for meritorious service to the Electrical Power Industry in 1984. He was active in the National Generation and Transmission Managers Association and served in the mid-continent power pool.

After going to Decatur, he was appointed commissioner of the Illinois Rural bond Bank for a term ending in 1993. He was a former Rotarian and a member of the Decatur Country Club. He was also a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church and an ordained elder.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Annabella Williams.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret; a daughter and son-in-law, Amy and Ben Doran of Boone, Iowa; a son and daughter-in-law, C. Christopher and Bobbie Jo Williams of Decatur, Illinois; four grandchildren, Christopher Doran, Michael Doran, Derek Williams and Bridget Williams; and a sister, Christie Wehmiller of Omaha.

Dawson-Wickoff Funeral Home of Decatur, Illinois was in charge of arrangements.
