Henry W. Voss, Burned In Apartment Fire, Died Thursday

Henry William Voss, 58-year-old Blair man who was burned in an early morning fire at his apartment several weeks ago, died Thursday at the Veterans’ Hospital in Omaha. He failed to recover from burns and smoke inhalation at the fire.

Voss was burned early April 28th when fire was discovered enveloping the kitchen of their apartment at Kimberly Manor on west Nebraska street. The blaze, which had apparently been smoldering for some time, exploded in to full flame shortly before 7 A.M.

Firemen found Voss in the apartment, already unconscious from smoke and lack of oxygen. They removed him through a window and rushed him to Memorial Community Hospital.

He was born January 15, 1914, at Blair, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin Voss, now deceased of the Bennington area. He is survived by his wife, Leilah, and by two brothers and two sisters. The brothers are Martin Voss, of Blair, and Ervin Voss of Fremont. The sisters are Mrs. Lois Skow and Mrs. Edna Braesch, both of Bennington.

He was a veteran of World War II.

Funeral services are being held today at St. John’s Lutheran Church of Bennington with the Rev. Norman Schroeder conducting the service. Burial will be made in the German cemetery in the south part of Washington County, under the direction of the Campbell Mortuary in Blair.

Members of the Kennard Legion Post will act as pallbearers.
