John attended Sunnyside Grade School and Kennard High School.

A term in the United States of America armed forces interrupted his career as a farmer. John was inducted into the army February 25, 1942. He was a part of the 48th Tank Battalion that served in Africa and Italy. He received an honorable discharge September 26, 1945.

John and Louise Voss were married July 14, 1973. They made their home on the Voss farm of rural Blair.

John appreciated people – all ages – and endeared himself in their hearts. He enjoyed his participation in the Kennard American Legion No. 366, the Blair V.F.W. No. 1251, the 40 et 8 No. 1018. He was a charter member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles No. 3215. At St. John’s Lutheran Church he was a member of the Social Ministry Committee. He shared in all the work this committee does. He was also a caller in the Caring Ministry of the Evangelism Committee.

The seriousness of a health problem became evident only several weeks ago. John died July 2, 1984, at Veteran’s Hospital, Omaha, Nebraska. He was 69 years, 10 months and 20 days. Preceding him in death were his parents, and two sisters: Mrs. Catherine Christensen and Wilma Voss.

John is survived by his loving wife, Louise, three brothers: Wilbert of Oakland, Wallace and Alvin of Arlington; two sisters: Dorothy (Mrs. Avery) Jaspersen of West Point and Mrs. Evelyn Parrish of Omaha; nieces and nephews, other relatives, and many friends.
