#1 Wilbert Voss

Wilbert A. Voss was born on November 2, 1921 in Washington County to William and Bertha Voss. He graduated from high school in Kennard and attended Coynes Electric School in Chicago, Illinois. He was a Tech Sergeant in the U.S. Army for four years serving in the Philippines for three years as an electrician.

Voss was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church in Bennington. He married Bonnie Beebe at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Hooper, on February 12, 1949 and, to this union three daughters were born.

Voss farmed for a number of years, but had to quit because of ill health. He was the divisional sales manager for Oelwein Chemical Company of Oelwein, Iowa; he ran Voss Motors Automobile dealership in Oakland; and worked in the insurance business in stocks prior to moving to Oakland; and worked for Mutual Insurance Company of Oakland for the past ten years.

Voss was a member of First Lutheran Church of Oakland where he served as treasurer for several years and was a member of the church council both here in Oakland and in Homer, Nebraska. He was a one-time commander of the Oakland V.F.W. and a member of the American Legion. He served on the boards of the Four Trees Village and the Eight-plex Apartments. He was a member of the Oakland Lions Club and served as the state president for Mutual Insurance Companies of Nebraska.

He died on February 21, 1986, after a long illness.

Two sisters and one brother preceded him in death. Surviving are his wife Bonnie of the home, three daughters, Mrs. Robert (Christy) Beerman of Bruchmuhlbach, Germany; Mrs. David (Debbie) Boganowski, of Papillion, and Mrs. Mark (Jill) Johnson of Oakland; six grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Avery (Dorothy) Jasperson of West Point, Mrs. Evelyn Parrish of Omaha, and two brothers Wally and Alvin Voss of Arlington, and a number of nieces and nephews.
