THEODORE VERNER SALESTROM, 84

Services for Theodore Verner Salestrom, 84 who died in Blair February 11, 1994 were Tuesday, February 15 in Tekamah. Burial was at Lyons Cemetery.

Theodore Verner Salestrom was born May 11, 1909 at Saint Edward to Theodore Engelbart and Alvida Christina Nelson Salestrom. His boyhood was spent on a farm at Saint Edward. He was confirmed as a youth at Salem Lutheran Church.

He was a member of Divide Center Presbyterian Church, beginning in 1931. He transferred his membership to Tekamah First Presbyterian Church in 1938.

He was a past Nobel Grand of Orange Lodge No. 23, which he joined in 1939.

He moved to Oakland in 1926. He lived in Oakland for several years and then moved to Lyons where he lived for five years. He moved to a farm northwest of Tekamah in 1938.

He was a pioneer of conservation work and was active in soil conservation organizations. In 1961 he became one of the directors who helped organize the Elkhorn Watershed District and served on that board until 1976.

He married Jennie Opal Dennis August 21, 1929 in Council Bluffs. She preceded him in death in 1973.

He married Olive Lindblom of Omaha November 6, 1976. She preceded him in death in 1993.

He was also preceded in death by his parents, an infant daughter, Janet; and a sister Marie Billstone.

He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Alvin and Hazel Salestrom of Tekamah; a daughter and son-in-law, Theda and Harold Haswell of San Jose, California; step-daughters, LaVonne (Mrs. Ray) Lambrecht of Minneapolis, Minnesota and Maxine (Mrs. Steve) Naab of Omaha; a brother, Rudy Salestrom of Palm Dale, California; a sister, Arlene Blair of Omaha; six grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
