Donald E. Brown, 84

Donald E. Brown, 84, of Lincoln, formerly of Boca Raton, Fla., and Arlington, died Monday, January 21, 2013, at the Lancaster Manor in Lincoln.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, January 25, 2013, at Reckmeyer-Moser Funeral Home in Arlington. There will be no viewing or visitation as cremation has taken place. Interment will be at the Arlington Cemetery.

Donald E. Brown was born January 19, 1929, on a farm near Arlington to Lloyd and Odessa (Svendgaard) Brown. He spent his childhood there and was a 1946 graduate of Arlington High School.

He served in the U. S. Army from Jan. 27, 1951, to March 8, 1952.

He had farmed and driven a truck in the Arlington area. In the early 1980s, he was a greens keeper while living in Boca Raton. He moved to Lincoln in November 2012.

Mr. Brown was a past mayor of Arlington and had been president of DeMolay of Nebraska. He also received Employee of the Year from the City of Boca Raton.

He was a member of the Hiram Masonic Lodge 52, A.F. & A.M. and Post 71 of the American Legion, both at Arlington.

He was a die-hard Nebraska football fan.

He is survived by his special friend, Eleanor Sullivan of Boca Raton, Fla.; three children and their spouses, William G. “Bill” and Patti Brown and Amy L. Brown, all of Lincoln, and Bruce L. and Beth Brown of Arlington; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, Bob and Fern Brown of Lubbock, Texas; sister, Eunice Arthur of Fremont; sister-in-law, Frances Brown of Arlington; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by an infant twin brother, Ronald Brown; and a brother, LeRoy Brown.

Memorials may be directed to the American Diabetes Association.

Laughlin-Hoevet Funeral Home in Wymore is in charge of arrangements.
