Charles E. Cachelin, 80

Charles E. Cachelin, 80, of Vallejo, Calif., formerly of Fort Calhoun, died Monday, January 14, 2013, in Vallejo.

Services are 11 a.m. Monday, January 28, at the Fort Calhoun Presbyterian Church. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. on Monday at the church. Interment will be in the Fort Calhoun Cemetery.

Charles E. Cachelin was born January 28, 1932, to Edward and Hazel Cachelin at Fort Calhoun.

He graduated from Fort Calhoun High School.

As a young man, he worked at Western Electric for several years, and then decided he wanted to join the Navy. He spent 20 years with the Navy and then retired.

He owned his own business, Mobile Auto Repairs, for many years in Vallejo. He worked on lots of vehicles and made lots of friends.

He spent many years as an avid race car driver when he was young, racing at the Arlington Race Track and also in his later years at Vallejo. He drove a Dwarf race car on a dirt track at Antioch Raceway at the age of 71 and drove until he was 79.

He married Josephine Cabral, who preceded him in death.

His special friend, Mary Garcia, had taken care of him through his illness and has been the love of his life for many years.

He is survived by his sisters, Frances Sheppard of Fort Calhoun and Jo Ann (Hansen) Crofton of Louisville; special friend, Mary Garcia of Vallejo, Calif.; many nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Jo; sisters, Thelma (Gerst) Biggs and Illa (McNew) Wenzel; and brother, Urban Cachelin.

Memorials may be directed to the Fort Calhoun Presbyterian Church.

Sievers-Sprick Funeral Home in Fort Calhoun is in charge of arrangements.
