GENE E. SANDEEN, 73

Gene E. Sandeen, 73, of Fremont, died Friday, Jan. 7, 2000, at A.J. Merrick Manor in Fremont.

Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2000, at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont.

The Rev. John Hargreaves will officiate.

A graveside memorial service will be conducted by the Fremont Honor Guard of VFW Post # 854 and the American Legion Post # 20.

Gene E. Sandeen was born Nov. 8, 1926, to Edwin and Laura (Schutte) Sandeen in Hooper. He grew up in Hooper and served in the U.S. Army from January 1949 to December 1952 during the Korean War as he was stationed in Japan.

He lived in Hooper until 1958, when he came to Fremont.

He was employed as feed department manager at Farmer’s Union Coop in Fremont for 18 years.

He then moved to Hooper in 1968 and was employed at the Nickerson Coop for 23 years as feed department manager until retiring in 1991.

He came to Fremont in June 1998.

On June 17, 1954, he married RoseMarie Whiteman in Fremont.

He was a former member of the Nickerson VFW.

Also, he was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Hooper.

He is survived by his wife; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Jerry Sandeen of Winslow and Mark and Carole Sandeen of Carroll, Iowa; daughter, Barb Grindvold of Fremont; brother and sister-in-law, Leland and Bonnie Sandeen of Fremont; sister, Maxine Stork of Arlington; and four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents. He was also preceded in death by two twin brothers, Melvin and Merle Sandeen. An infant sister, Loretta May, also preceded him in death.

Memorials are suggested to Winslow Community Improvement.

Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont is in charge of arrangements.
