GAYLEN “SONNY” SANDVOLD, 57

Gaylen “Sonny” Sandvold, 57, of Blair, died Monday, Dec. 20, 1999, at Immanual Hospital in Omaha.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 23, at First Lutheran Church in Blair. Burial will be in the Blair Cemetery.

Gaylen Sandvold was born July 20, 1942 to Leonard and Gladys (Bell) Sandvold of Austin, Minn. He was raised in Lincoln and graduated from Lincoln High. He graduated from Dana College and then served with the 82nd Airborne Division of the US Army during the Vietnam War. He received the Air Medal and Purple Heart.

On Sept. 27, 1968, he married Barbara Siert in Blair. He taught English in the Blair School System for eight years. He then owned and operated S & S Pumping Service.

He was a member of the First Lutheran Church, Blair American Legion and VFW. He served as treasurer and coach for the Blair Little League Program, and was instrumental in planting many of the trees around the ball fields.

He is survived by his wife Barbara; a son and daughter-in-law, James and Gracia Sandvold; and a grandson, Michael, all of Blair; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Carolynn and Jerry Varner; and Kathryn and Robert Andrews, all of Lincoln; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Sharon and Bob Madsen of Blair and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Marianne Sandvold.

Campbell-Aman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
