HELENE SAPP ALWAYS HAPPY TO HELP

By Jane Palmer, World-Herald Staff Writer

Organized and kind, Helene Sapp excelled as a nurse, a homemaker and a businesswoman.

She was the wife of Omaha businessman Lee Sapp, one of the four brothers who built the Sapp Bros. Truck Stops with the distinctive coffeepot signs.

Helene Sapp died March 14 in the Alzheimer’s care unit at Brighton Gardens of Omaha. She was 82. A memorial service is set for 11 a.m. Wednesday at Kingsway Christian Church, 1106 S. 139th St.

Born and reared in Pottsville, Pa., Helene Trenosky was an officer and nurse in the U.S. Navy from 1948 to 1952, rising to the rank of lieutenant commander. She met her husband while in the service and they were married Oct. 25, 1953.

“She was a wonderful, wonderful, wonderful wife, mother and grandmother,” Lee Sapp said. “She had the touch: very well organized, everything neat and in its place.”

When Lee Sapp Enterprises owned a bank for a time, she stepped in to assist with the management, her husband said.

Sapp said his wife enjoyed traveling to Europe, China and Australia, but her favorite destination was Hawaii. She was a fan of Cornhusker football, attending every game for many years. She also enjoyed playing bridge, reading and going to movies.

In addition to her husband and son Lee Alan Sapp of Omaha, Sapp is survived by sisters Genevieve Bolding, San Rafael, Calif.; Anne La Barre, Scarsdale, N.Y.; and Kay Reynolds, Mechanicsburg, Pa.; and two grandsons.
