Mrs. Julia Wilson Buried Thursday

Mrs. Julia Ann Wilson, 93 years of age, of 551 North 23rd Street, passed away at the McBride Nursing Home in Blair on January 27, 1963.

Julia Hook (Mrs. Wilson) was born at Edgewood, Illinois, on August 28, 1869, the daughter of Jonathan and Margaret Hooks. Her father died at the age of 44 years, leaving his wife and eight children to survive him.

Shortly after the death of Mr. Hooks, their grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. John Armstrong, invited them to move to Nebraska and make their home on a small farm in Washington County. And so, in 1874, Mrs. Wilson’s mother packed up their belongings and with her eight children headed west for Nebraska by train.

Upon arriving in Nebraska, her mother purchased a small farm northwest of Blair in Washington County, and with the help of relatives constructed a two-room house, 20x40 feet. Mrs. Wilson attended the Summers School in the original log school house.

She was married to Robert H. Wilson on September 21, 1887. They farmed until October 1, 1916, at which time they moved to Blair, and to the same house that Mrs. Wilson lived in until just a few weeks before she passed away. Mr. Wilson preceded her in death in 1944.

Mrs. Wilson is survived by one son, Glen, one grandson, Raymond, and one great-grandson, Norman.

Funeral services will be held Thursday (today), January 31, 1963 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church with the Reverend Gilbert J. Reiland officiating. The Bendorf Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

The pallbearers are: Robert McMillan, Harold Taylor, O. R. Foust, Willard Warrick, A. J. Skov and Wallace Husk.
