Frank Jewett, Kennard Postmaster, Was Heart Attack Victim

Frank Jewett, well-known Kennard man, died Monday at the Memorial Community Hospital in Blair. He had been hospitalized since last Friday and was being treated for a heart ailment. His condition had been very serious from the outset.

Mr. Jewett, 49 years of age, was Postmaster at Kennard, a post which he had filled for the past five years.

He was born April 2, 1919 at Torino, Ill. He was married to his wife, the former Virginia Wright, on April 4th, 1944, at Seymour Johnson Field, Goldsborough, North Carolina. At that time he was serving in the Air Force. Following the end of World War II and six years in the Air Force, he moved with his wife to Kennard which has been his home for more than twenty years.

He is survived by his wife, Virginia and by a daughter, Jennifer. He has two sisters, Mrs. Charles Perino, of Braceville, Ill., and Mrs. Anton Vaira, of South Wiliminton, Ill. He also has two brothers. They are Edward, of Winterhaven, Florida and Donald of Braceville, Ill.

He has been active in civic affairs during his years in Kennard. He was a charter member of the Kennard Legion Post and was a long-time member of the Kennard Fire Department. He was a member of the Kennard Methodist Church.

Prior to becoming Postmaster Mr. And Mrs. Jewett had operated a combination service station and café on Highway 30 at Kennard.

Funeral services will be held this afternoon (Thursday) at the Kennard Methodist Church with the Rev. Arden Dorn conducting the service. Burial, under the direction of the Bendorf Funeral Home, will be made in the Kennard Cemetery.

Pallbearers are all close associates of Mr. Jewett who have worked with him in many community affairs. They will be: James Schneider, Roscoe Anderson, John Voss, Arnold Matzen, Wayne Kirk and Kenneth Hunter.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Harold Madsen, Jr., Leland Wolfe, Arnold Rogert, Melvern West, Clifford Dame, and Marvin Sexton.
