HAD FARMED NORTHWEST OF BLAIR, LATER RETIRED TO HOME HERE

Robert Henry Wilson, 86, farmer northwest of Blair for more than a quarter of a century and a resident of Blair since 1916, died at Blair Hospital on Monday. Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. at First Baptist Church, who congregation he had served as a deacon for many years. The Rev. D. D. Kennedy, will officiate, with interment at Blair Cemetery.

Bendorf Funeral Home is in charge of the funeral arrangements.

Born Nov. 25, 1858, at Edgewood, Ill., Mr. Wilson spent his boyhood and early manhood on Illinois farms. He came to Washington County in 1881, farming for six years in partnership with his brother, William.

He was married to Julia Hook on Sept. 21, 1837. The couple farmed northwest of Blair until their retirement to Blair in 1916, since then they have made their home at 409 West Street.

Always active in community life until his age made civic work impossible, Mr. Wilson served on the school board for more than 20 years. He was active, also, in church affairs.

Survivors include the widow and their one son, Glen Wilson of Blair; a grandson, Raymond Wilson; two brothers, Frank V. Wilson of Blair and Charles of Edgewood, Ill.; and a sister, Mrs. Emma Spurlin of Edgewood, Ill.

ROBERT WILSON, 88, DIED MONDAY AT BLAIR HOSPITAL

Was Early Settler, Successful Farmer, Active In Civic Affairs Robert H. Wilson, a resident of this county since 1881, died at the Blair Hospital on Monday, November 27, at the age of eighty six years.

Deceased was born in Edgewood, Illinois on November 25, 1858, and was thus just past his eighty sixth birthday at his death. He came to this county in 1881 where he farmed with his brother, William Wilson, for six years.

On September 21, 1887 he was united in marriage with Julie Hooks, and to them one son, Glen, was born. After their marriage, they established their home northwest of Blair where they lived until their retirement in 1916 when they moved to Blair.

During their time of residence on the farm Mr. Wilson was not only an industrious and thrifty farmer, but he took time to be interested in the civic affairs of the community life. He served on the school board for over twenty years, and was an active member of the Baptist Church, serving as deacon for years.

He leaves to mourn his passing his devoted wife and his son, Glen, and one grandson, Raymond. Besides these, there are two brothers, Frank V. and Charles and one sister, Mrs. Emma Spurlin, all of Edgewood, Illinois, and a host of friends who join with these relatives in their grief over the departed.

Funeral services will be held on Friday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock from the First Baptist Church under the auspices of the Bendorf Funeral Home and with Rev. D. D. Kennedy officiating, and interment will be made in the Blair cemetery.
