Helen Wilt

Funeral services were held at Fort Calhoun Presbyterian Church in Fort Calhoun on Saturday, July 12 for Helen C. Wilt, who passed away last Wednesday, July 9. Rev. Don Killin of Billings, Montana, a former pastor of Fort Calhoun Presbyterian Church, officiated and services were under the direction of Sievers-Sprick Funeral Home.

Helen C. Ambler was born December 11, 1909 at Langrell, Oregon to Irwin and Christena Ambler. She moved to Fort Calhoun at the age of three, with her mother and sister, Mildred, after her father was killed in a rock slide in Oregon. She attended Fort Calhoun Public Schools and graduated from high school in 1929. She worked at the U. S. Brush factory in Omaha.

Helen married Kenneth Lester Wilt in Papillion, Nebraska, on February 1, 1942. They resided in Fort Calhoun all their married life, and had one son, Roger.

Mrs. Wilt was a member of the Fort Calhoun Presbyterian Church, Fort Calhoun Legion Auxiliary, and Woodmen of the World, and just received her 50-year pin in April of this year. She also belonged to the Neighbors Club, and had kept a scrapbook for the Fire Department for many years.

Helen is survived by her grandson, Lester Wilt of Lyons, Nebraska; and nephews, Irwin, LeRoy and Allen Nelson and families of Fort Calhoun. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Mildred Nelson; son, Roger; and husband, Lester.

Note: There isn't a current town named "Langrell" in Oregon, but it likely refers to Jimtown, a former small settlement near Halfway, Oregon, that was originally named Langrell after sawmill owner Richard T. Langrell, or perhaps a confusion with Langlois, a coastal community, or the Langell Valley area. Langrell was a very small place, possibly just a few buildings related to a sawmill, and now is part of Pine Valley, near Halfway.
