Lester Wilt services held in Fort Calhoun

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, April 17 at Fort Calhoun Presbyterian Church for Lester Wilt, 77. Prayer service was held on Tuesday evening at the Sievers-Sprick Funeral Home, and interment was made at Fort Calhoun Cemetery.

Kenneth L. (Les) Wilt was born in Hitchcock, South Dakota on May 31, 1907 to Henry and Alice Wilt. He moved with his family, as a small boy, to Nebraska, growing up in the vicinity of Bennington and Irvington. He later moved to Omaha where he was employed. He married Helen Ambler on February 1, 1942. On March 19th of that same year, Les was inducted into the Army, where he spent most of his three years and seven months in the service on overseas duty. Upon return from the service, Les worked for a few years before going to work for Cargill Elevator, from which he retired after twenty-two years with the company. The Wilts lived in Fort Calhoun for many years. They observed their fortieth wedding anniversary three years ago.

Les was preceded in death by their son, Roger; and his mother and father. He is survived by his wife, Helen; their grandson, Lester, of Lyons, Nebraska; his brother, Arthur, of Wahoo, Nebraska; his sister, Opal, of Omaha, Nebraska, and several nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews.

Lester was a member of the Fort Calhoun Fire Department for 26 years, and was active in both the V.F.W. and American Legion. He joined the Fort Calhoun Presbyterian Church in 1947.

Pallbearers at the funeral services were Donald Nelson, Rick Nelson, Rich Nelson, Gayle Maine, Jerry Anderson and Dave Ringler.
