Mrs. Wayne Wise Buried At Manson, Iowa

Mrs. Wayne (Edith) Wise passed away at the University Hospital in Omaha on Thursday, January 9, after a prolonged illness.

She was born at Callender, Iowa, May 20, 1920, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Fiderlick. On July 20, 1950, she was married to Way Wise, son of Mrs. and Mrs. Glen Wise of Manson, Iowa, at the Morningside parsonage in Sioux City, Iowa.

Her elementary and secondary education was received at Moorland, Iowa. After teaching rural schools in the 1930’s, she entered and graduated from the Ft. Dodge Business College at Ft. Dodge, Iowa, after which she worked as a secretary for the Horn Manufacturing Company. From 1942 through 1945 she served in the WACs, where she was a member of the WAC band. She graduated from Morningside College in Sioux City, Iowa with a Bachelors of Music Education Degree, and in 1950 received her Masters Degree in Music Education from Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa.

Mrs. Wise taught vocal and instrumental music in the public schools of Avon, South Dakota, Pierson, Iowa and Ann Arbor, Michigan. From 1960 to 1971, she taught elementary instrumental music in the Blair City Schools. Being a very civic minded person, she participated in many charitable activities of the community. During 1959 and 1960 she was director of the choir at the Methodist Church and served several years on their music committees. She was a member of the MENC, American Legion, charter member of the Blair branch of the A.A.U.W. Hospital Auxiliary and a member of the First Methodist Church. Among her musical endeavors was membership in the Sioux City Symphony, the Des Moines Symphony and the Monahan Post Band of Sioux City.

During the seventeen years she made her home in Blair, she was an integral part of the activities at Dana College. She served several terms as president and other offices of the Dana Women’s Club. For sixteen years, she participated in the Dana College Band, where as an accomplished musician and tireless worker, played the French horn, trumpet, alto saxophone and baritone horn. Always interested in friendship and activities of present and former students, she enjoyed entertaining them in her home. Although she had much concern for her fellow man, one of her greatest interest and love was for young people and their relationship to music.

She is survived by her husband, Dr. Wayne Wise of Blair, her mother, Mrs. Ellen Fiderlick of Fort Dodge, Iowa, a brother, Vernon Fiderlick of Buffalo Center, Iowa, and a sister, Mrs. Dwight (Arlene) Reigert of Bettendorf, Iowa.

Services were conducted Monday at 10 a.m. January 13, 1975 at the First Methodist Church in Blair with Dr. Gordon Patterson and Dr. C.C. Madsen officiating. Interment was at the Rose Hill Cemetery in Manson, Iowa with Dr. C.C. Madsen officiating.

Acting as pallbearers were: A.J. Snowbeck, A.E. Rembold, Larrie Stone, Roger Petersen, Tony Hansen, Richard Jorgensen, Russell Musick and Dennis Hock.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to the Leukemia Research Center at the University of Nebraska Medical Center.
