Friday afternoon, November 16, at two o’clock, funeral services for Mrs. J.D. Eakin were held at the Congregational church. All of her children were present except one son, Henry Eakin, whose home is in Washington and who could not be reached by a message in time to permit him to be present. There was a regular downpour of rain almost all of the afternoon but still the church was well filled with those desiring to show their respect and love for this fine Christian pioneer woman, who has gone on to her reward. Mrs. Eakin was ever thoughtful of others, and in her passing her children lose a wonderful mother and her friends and neighbors one who was ever loyal and kind. She loved flowers and children and was ever thoughtful of the little folks in the neighborhood, always having a supply of “goodies” on hand for them. Mrs. Eakin went through all the hardships of early pioneer life in Washington county but was also permitted to enjoy the comforts of later life earned by those early years of toil. The services were conducted by Rev. Aeschbacher and she was laid to rest in the Arlington cemetery by the side of her husband who passed from this life last May. Mrs. Eakin’s death occurred Monday afternoon, November 12th at the home of her daughter, Mrs. William Osterman, Jr., at Fremont. The many friends of the family extend their sincere sympathy to the bereaved family.
