Verna R. Bull, 88, of Blair died Friday, February 8, 2013, at Lakeside Hospital in Omaha.

A memorial service will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, February 12, at First Lutheran Church in Blair. Visitation will be Monday at Campbell-Aman Funeral Home beginning at 1 p.m. with family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Burial of ashes will be in the Blair Cemetery.

Verna R. Kruse was born August 16, 1924, in rural Fort Calhoun to Paul and Freida (Logemann) Kruse.

She attended Greene country school and then Fort Calhoun High School. After graduating from high school, she moved to Omaha to work at Dean Studio, the Martin Bomber Plant, as a steno for Byers Bros. Commission Co. in the Livestock Exchange Building, as a bookkeeper at Farmers National Co., and as a switchboard operator at Douglas County Bank in Benson.

After she married Richard Bull in 1946, she spent 20 years raising their children.

In 1967, she returned to pursue her love of bookkeeping at the Tyson Elevator. In February 1969, she accepted a job at the Blair City Clerk Office. After 10 years, she was appointed to the office of city clerk, retiring in January 1990. The couple traveled extensively throughout the United States, missing only three states. They had traveled to Alaska and the Hawaiian Islands. They traveled across Canada, and from Vancouver to Nova Scotia, Europe, Monterey and Puerto Penesco, Mexico, through the Panama Canal to the Caribbean Islands.

For 10 years, they lived in Mesa, Ariz., during the winter months.

In October 1999, the couple moved to Johansen Manor in Blair.

In December 2011, Mrs. Bull moved to Walnut Grove Retirement Community. She is survived by her children and their spouses, Catherine and John Bourne of Millard, Keith Bull of Blair and Kirk and Veida Bull of Black Canyon City, Ariz.; brother and sister-in-law, Mylan and Corrine Kruse; sisters-in-law, Teresa Kruse, Addie Backhuus and Bonnie Bull; brother-in-law, Fredrick Bull; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Bull; son, Kenneth Bull; sister, Ruberta Kruse; and brother, Harley Kruse.

Memorials may be directed to First Lutheran Church in Blair or the American Heart Association.
