Peggy Wittlinger, 78

Peggy Wittlinger, 78, of Blair, died March 25, 2001, at Memorial Community Hospital in Blair following a lengthy illness.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 28 at St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church in Blair. Interment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery.

Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Tuesday, with the Rosary held at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Inez Joy Wittlinger was born Dec. 9, 1922, in Oakland, Iowa, to Emmett A. and Agnes P. (Tennigkeit) Rounds. The Rounds family moved to Blair in 1933, and she graduated from Blair High School in 1940.

She became a registered nurse in 1943 after attending Clarkson School of Nursing. She also attended Dana College in 1950 through 1951.

She served in World War II as an army nurse in the European Theater of Operations, earning two bronze battlestars.

On June 13, 1945, she was married to Frederick Wittlinger in Sissonne, France. After her separation in November of 1945, she was the homemaker in many locations during her husband’s military career, until they finally settled in Blair in 1968 with their daughters.

Mrs. Wittlinger was a member of American Legion Post No. 154, American Legion Auxiliary, V.F.W. Post No. 2131, and St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church.

She is survived by her husband, Frederick, two daughters and sons-in-law, Joyce and Jerry Robbins of Grand Junction, Colo., Janet and Chuck Caul of Schroon Lake, N.Y., six grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, a nephew, Stephen Rounds of Blair, and a niece, Mary Christiansen of Blair.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Warren H. Rounds.

Memorials are suggested to Memorial Community Hospital in Blair.

Campbell-Aman Funeral Home in Blair is in charge of arrangements.
