Norma Wittmann

Norma Wittmann, 88, of Fremont, formerly of Arlington, died Saturday, Aug. 15, 2009, at Hooper Care Center.

She was born May 7, 1921, in Arlington to Evi and Ida (Hilgenkamp) Dunklau. She married Arthur H. Wittmann on May 26, 1940. She and her husband farmed northeast of Arlington on the farm homesteaded by her grandfather, William Hilgenkamp, in 1861. They received the Aksarben Pioneer Farm Award in 1960. They moved into Arlington in 1974 and she moved to Fremont in 2000. Her husband preceded her in death Dec. 30, 1998.

She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church of Arlington, St. Paul’s Quilters and sang in the church choir. She also was a member of Lutheran Women’s Missionary League.

Survivors include: a son, Dennis Wittmann (and wife, Joan) of Auburn; two daughters, Marilyn (and husband, Richard) Kohl of Fremont and Joyce (and husband, Dana) Udey of Columbus; a sister, Meta Giesselmann of Hawaii; nine grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

She also was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister.

The funeral will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church north of Arlington with the Rev. Rick Kanoy officiating. Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. today at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont with the family present from 6 – 8 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to service time Wednesday at the church. Burial will be in St. Paul’s Cemetery.

A memorial has been established to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and the Lutheran Hour.
