Wallace E. Wittmann, 73

Wallace E. Wittmann, 73, died on Thursday, Dec. 15, 1988, at Memorial Hospital in Fremont. Wallace was a retired farmer from Hooper, Ne.

Wallace was born on July 28, 1915 in Evanston, In., to William and Clara (Mulzer) Wittmann. The family moved to Nebraska when Wallace was an infant.

Wallace farmed in the Herman, Hooper and Winslow areas all of his life until retiring in 1980.

Wallace was united in marriage to Hilda Katt on Jan. 14, 1940 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Winslow.

Wallace was a member of the Winslow and Hooper volunteer fire department and worked on the rescue squad. He was also a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church at Hooper where he served as an elder and Trustee of the church as well as singing in the choir and serving on the Stewardship Committee and Building Committee. He was also a member of the Nebraska F.F.A. Alumni.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and by two brothers, Rudolph and Oscar Wittmann.

He is survived by his wife Hilda; four daughters, Mrs. James (Alice) Dam of Hooper, Mrs. Larry (Irene) Homes of Fremont, Mrs. Anton (Dorothy) Beck and Mrs. Steven (Sharon) Cole both of Rockford, Ill.; three brothers, Arthur Wittman of Arlington, Narvin Wittman of Annapolis, Maryland and Ervin Wittman of Reston, Virginia; and 12 grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Monday, Dec. 19, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Hooper with the Rev. Kenneth Ernstmeyer officiating.

Pallbearers were Dwight and David Dam, John Beck, Brian Homes and Jon and Richard Katt. Honorary pallbearers were Elmer Krohn, Laverne Busch, Roland Rewinkle Keith Krohn, Dale Sagehorn and Loren Katt.

The organist was Virginia Meyer and the soloist was Karna Anderson.

Interment was in the Memorial Cemetery in Fremont and funeral arrangements were handled by Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont.
