Berkely L. Wolf, 82

Berkely L. Wolf, 82, of Arlington, died Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2008, in the Fremont Area Medical Center.

The funeral service was Saturday, Feb. 9, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. Interment was in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery(east of Winslow) with military honors by American Legion Post 71 and VFW Post 8332.

Berkely L. Wolf was born July 31, 1925, on the family farm in Dodge County, east of Winslow, to Louis and Bessie (Barnhart) Wolf. He was baptized and confirmed in the Immanuel Lutheran Church of rural Hooper. He attended the Wolf rural school, and graduated from Hooper High School. Then he worked for area farmers until entering into the United States Army in 1944. He left for overseas duty on the day the war ended. He served in peacekeeping missions in the Philippines and in Korea. He was discharged in 1945. While in the Army, he played in the Army band.

After returning from military duty, he began hauling milk in 1952, when it was still hauled in milk cans. He operated on of the first bulk milk trucks in 1955. In 1966, he and a partner purchased a milk route and, in 1972, he became sole owner and CEO. He retired in the mid 1990s. He had also raised sheep.

On Feb. 6, 1953, he married Marian Stuenkel. She died in September of 1993. On October 14, 1995, he married Grace Shumake.

Mr. Wolf was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. He was also a member of American Legion Post 71 and a member of, and Past Commander, of VFW Post 8332, both of Arlington. He was a longtime member of the Mid-States Milk Carriers Association. He played in the Elkhorn Valley Jammers band with his brother, Lyle, and friends, entertaining at local care centers and seniors’ events.

He is survived by his second wife, Grace; three daughters and sons-in-law Jane and Jim Keathley of Charlottesville, Va., Peggy and Randy Anderson of Crofton and Karen and Mark Benson of Bellevue; two sons and daughters-in-law, Randy and Shelly Wolf of Lincoln, and Bill and Lori Wolf of Arlington; 10 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; one sister, Lola Mae Denison of Lady Lake, Fla; and a brother and sister-in-law, Lyle and Marian Wolf of Fremont.

Memorials are suggested to the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church Endowment Fund, VFW Post 8332, and the Arlington Fire & Rescue.
