Ditlof Wolsmann Drowned Friday on River Work

Back Truck on Runway From Shore to Barge, Runway Gives Way

WATER 2 FEET DEEP

One of the saddest accidents occurring in this vicinity for years happened last Friday when Ditloff Wolsmann lost his life by drowning. He had been employed in hauling rock for the river work and was just backing down the runway to the barge below to unload his load of rock when the runway broke letting his truck fall into the river, this report is according to witnesses on hand at the time.

In the fall into the river the truck and driver were submerged. All possible haste was made in the attempt to bring his body to the surface and when he was finally taken from the water there were still signs of life but he failed to recover.

This is the second life to have been lost in the river work and there was considerable excitement after the report was given out.

Deceased was a native of this county having been born near Kennard, May 15, 1895 and was past forty years of age at his death. He was married to Lulu Andersen at Kennard on December 6, 1921 and later they moved to Blair where Mr. Wolsmann engaged in business.

He leaves to mourn his departure his wife and one son and one daughter, also his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Wolsmann and three sisters, Mr. J.T. Nelson, Mrs. Nels Buchardt and Mrs. Ed Nielsen and two brothers Soren and Henry, all of Blair.

Funeral services were held from the First Lutheran Church of Blair on Sunday afternoon at 2 o’clock and interment was made in the Blair Cemetery where a host of friends gathered to show their last token of regard for the departed.
