Mrs. Wm. McGowan passed away Friday morning at her home just south of town following a period of poor health which lasted for over five years. The funeral was held at her home Sunday afternoon at 2:00, Rev. C. C. Norlin pastor of the Methodist church, officiating, Misses Mildred Swanson and Iris Brewster, Fred Robertson and son, Cornell, with Mrs. E. P. Hansen, at the piano furnished music.

Nancy Louise Spiker was born July 16, 1860 in Terre Haute, Henderson, county, Illinois. When nine years old she moved with her parents to the Rose Hill neighborhood in Washington county. She was united in marriage to Wm. McGowan on November 27, 1877. With her husband she lived in Grant Townshp until 1898, when they moved to Herman, Nebraska which was her home until her death which occurred Feb. 17, 1928. About five years ago she suffered a stroke of paralysis from which she never fully recovered. When death came to release her spirit from the afflicted body she had reached the age of 67 years 7 months and 10 days. At the age of sixteen years she joined the Rosehill Methodist Episcopal church and through her life she endeavored to live the principles of her Lord and Savior. She is survived by her husband, Wm. McGowan, one son, Samuel, who lives seven miles southwest of Herman and two daughters, Ida and Mande, both living at home. The family has the sympathy of the entire community.
