Larry A. Thielen, 54

Larry A. Thielen, 54, of Blair, died Monday, February 11, 2013, at Memorial Community Hospital in Blair.

Services will be 10 a.m. Friday, February 15, at St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church in Blair. Visitation will be one hour prior to services. Interment will be in the Holy Cross Cemetery in Blair.

Larry A. Thielen was born March 1, 1958, in St. Paul, Minn., to Betty (Crise) and Donald Thielen.

He lived in South St. Paul, Minn. until June of 1972 when the family moved to Blair. He attended Blair High School and graduated with the Class of 1976.

Throughout his life, he worked at several restaurants in Blair: The Topper, Cottonwood Marina and The Limit. After that, he managed the Romeo’s in Omaha.

In 2003, Mr. Thielen combined his love for the beauty of northern Minnesota with his life-long dream of owning his own restaurant and purchased the Pine Wood Café in Pine River, Minn. As a result of the failing economy, he closed the restaurant doors in 2011 and moved back to Blair to assist with the care of his mother.

He started a new career in Nebraska with the Heartland Food Corp. (Burger King) as a general manager.

He is survived by his mother, Betty of Blair; brother and sister-in-law, Jim and Susan of Plymouth, Minn.; sisters and brothers-in-law, Connie and Justin Wright of Waverly and Kris and Brian Larsen of Herman; nephews and nieces, Trevor Wright, Mikah Wright, Bree Larsen, Dawn Thielen and Evan Thielen.

He was preceded in death by his father, Donald in 1988; and his grandparents.
