August Nelsen passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Nels Nelsen, at Omaha Wednesday, June 20, 1928, at 4 p.m.; death resulting from a stroke of paralysis which he suffered a week before and from which he did not rally, though he had been in good health until the day he was stricken.

Mr. Nelsen was born in Denmark January 22, 1848, and was 80 years and 6 months of age at the time of his death. He was united in marriage to Miss Johanna Hansen of Denmark in 1872 and to this union eleven children, five sons, and six daughters, were born, one daughter dying in infancy and one at the age of eight years, also two other daughters, Mrs. Katie Kjar of Omaha and Mrs. Emma Gossard of Kennard, preceded their father in death. In 1874, Mrs. and Mr. Nelsen came to Nebraska from Denmark, residing in Omaha until 1885 when they came to Washington County to live on a farm three miles northwest of Kennard before coming to Kennard to reside some twenty years later. After Mrs. Nelson’s death in 1910, he made his home with his son, E. C. Nelsen, who in 1900 moved from Kennard to Fremont and then to Omaha to live. Following the death of his daughter-in-law, Mrs. Nelsen, about two months ago, he went to live with his daughter, Mrs. Nels Nelsen. One coincident in the passing of Mr. Nelsen was that on the same date 18 years ago, his little granddaughter, Vivian, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Chas. P. Nelsen, passed away at Long Pine, Nebr. He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Nels Nelsen and Mrs. C. M. Ward of Omaha and five sons, Chris H. and George, of Kennard, E. C., Chas. P. and William M. Nelsen of Omaha, one sister, Mrs. Chas. Jacobsen also of Omaha, twenty grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held at the Kennard Methodist Church at 3:30 P.M. Sunday, June 24, with interment in the family lot in the Kennard Cemetery.

Stroke of Paralysis Is Fatal

Kennard, June 22 – August Nelsen passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Nels Nelsen, at Omaha at 4 p.m. Wednesday, June 20, having suffered a stroke of paralysis a week before from which he did not rally, though he was in good health until the day he was stricken.

Mr. Nelsen was born in Denmark Jan. 22, 1848 and was eighty years and six months of age at the time of his death.

Kennard Man Dies

August Nelsen Was Pioneer Resident of County

August Nelsen passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Nels Nelsen at Omaha last Wednesday afternoon having suffered a stroke of paralysis a week before from which he did not rally, although he had been in good health until the day he was stricken. He was born in Denmark, January 22, 1848, and was eighty years of age at the time of his death.

He was united in marriage to Miss Johanna Hansen of Denmark in 1872 and to the union 11 children were born, one daughter dying in infancy, one at the age of eight years and two other daughters, Mrs. Nels Kjar of Omaha and Mrs. Stanley Gossard of Kennard, preceded their father in death. In 1874 the family came to Nebraska from Denmark locating at Omaha until in 1885 when they moved to a farm in Washington county about three miles northwest of Kennard. Twenty years later they moved to Kennard to reside. Following the death of Mrs. Nelsen in 1910, Mr. Nelsen had made his home with his son, E. C. Nelsen, of Kennard. For the past two months he had made his home with his daughter, Mrs. Nels Nelsen at Omaha. A coincident in the passing of Mr. Nelsen was the death of his granddaughter, Miss Vivian, who passed away eighteen years ago on the same date wa she.

He is survived by five sons, Chris H. and George of Kennard; E. C., Chas. P. and William Nelsen, all of Omaha, two daughters, Mrs. M. M. Ward and Mrs. Nels Nelsen of Omaha; a sister, Mrs. Chas. Jacobsen of Omaha, and twenty grandchildren and three great grandchildren besides a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held from the Kennard Methodist church last Sunday afternoon at 3:30 o’clock after which interment was made in Kennard cemetery.

The sad news reached here Wednesday evening that August Nelsen had passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Nels Nelsen, at Omaha, following a stroke of paralysis. Mr. Nelsen, who was 80 years of age at the time of his death, was an old resident of Kennard but had made his home in Omaha the past few years. He is survived by five sons, Chris II., and George H. of Kennard; Chas. P., Ernest C., and Wm. N. of Omaha; two daughters, Mrs. C. M. Ward and Mrs. Nels Nelsen of Omaha; and one sister, Mrs. Chas. Jacobsen of Omaha; Mrs. Nelsen and three daughters having preceded him in death. He is also survived by twenty grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held at the M.E. church in Kennard Sunday afternoon with burial in the Kennard cemetery.
