MARTHA SIERT DIED TONIGHT

PASSED AWAY AT THE JENNIE EDMISTON HOSPITAL IN COUNCIL BLUFFS AT 7:30 THIS EVENING

Miss Martha Siert passed away at 7:30 this evening at the Jennie Edmiston hospital in Council Bluffs at 7:30 this evening of carcinoma of the stomach, from which she had been suffering for the past year. She had been at the hospital only about ten days.

J.E. Campbell went down and brought the body here and the funeral will likely be held at the home of her mother, Mrs. Henry Siert, Friday. She was fifty years of age and was born here in Blair.

For a good many years she was employed at the Stockyards National bank in South Omaha, retiring about a year ago because of ill health. During all that time she made her home here, coming home almost every weekend.

Besides her mother she is survived by two sisters, Katherine of Chicago and Margaret who lived at home. Also four brothers, Frank, Paul and Fred of Blair, and Peter of George, Ia.

Miss Martha Siert died at a Council Bluffs hospital last Wednesday evening following an illness of about a year’s duration. The deceased was born in Blair where she attended the public schools. For a number of years she was employed in a good position at a large bank in Omaha but about a year ago her failing health influenced her to give up her duties. She was well acquainted in this community and was highly thought of by all who knew her. Funeral services were held from the home of her mother on west Washington street on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. after which interment was made in Blair cemetery. She leaves to mourn her loss, her mother, Mrs. Henry Siert; two sisters, Margaret at home and Katherine of Chicago; and four brothers, Fred, Paul and Frank of this city, and Peter of Iowa.

Miss Martha Siert passed away in the Jennie Edmondson hospital of Council Bluffs, Iowa at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 2. She had been ailing for some time and had been taken to the hospital ten days prior to her death but could get no relief.

Deceased was born in Blair, July 27, 1878. Her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Siert were among the early settlers who founded Blair, settling here in 1868, the year previous to the laying out of the townsite, The eldest son, Henry, who passed away five years ago, was born in 1869 just after the town was laid out and was the first child born in Blair.

Martha, the deceased, was a woman of estimable character loved by all who knew her. She was for twenty years an employee of the Stock Yards National Bank of South Omaha but about a year ago she resigned her position in order to be home with her mother and her sister, Margaret. She had been ailing for some time and finally after every effort was made to give her relief here she was taken to the hospital where she died.

Of a family of ten children the following beside the aged mother, survive to mourn her loss: Kate of Chicago; Frank, Paul and Fred of Blair; George of Florence; Pete of Akron, Iowa and Margaret at home.

The funeral services were held from the home at 2:30 p.m. Saturday and interment was made in the Blair cemetery.
