IRENE SAVAGE, 83

Services will be 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 17 at the Ludvigsen Mortuary in Fremont for Irene Savage, 83 of Fremont, who died Jan. 14, 1997 at Lincoln General Hospital in Lincoln. Rev. Alicia Ring of Calvary United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will be in the Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery in Omaha.

Visitation will be at the Ludvigsen Mortuary on Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. and on Friday from 9 a.m. until service time. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. on Thursday.

Irene Savage was born Feb. 18, 1913 on the family’s farm near Arlington to Charles and Naomi Johns French. She grew up on the farm and at age 16, graduated from Blair High School. She then began teaching at the rural March School near Kennard.

She graduated in 1941 as a registered nurse from the Methodist School of Nursing in Omaha.

She married Robert G. Savage in St. Paul, Nebr. on Feb. 26, 1942. Following their marriage, they lived near Omaha and she worked for several years as a registered nurse at Immanuel Hospital.

Later she lived in Peoria, Ariz. for several years and then in Cedar Crest, NM. She had lived in Fremont for the past three years.

She had been a volunteer at the Fremont Area Medical Center.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert on Feb. 27, 1972; four brothers and one sister.

She is survived by a daughter, Mary Safford of Cedar Crest; a son, Thomas Savage of Lincoln; four grandchildren and a sister, Ethel French of Fremont, Nebr.

Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society.
