MRS. LYMAN SAUM

There was a very large attendance at the funeral, June 22, 1913, of Mrs. Lyman Saum of Coffman, widow of the late Veteran Lyman Saum, who was born in Taylor county, Iowa, sixty-three years ago.

Miss Mary Elizabeth Wilson was married to her late husband in 1871, when they began farming about one mile from her late abode and where her six children were born and five were brought up to manhood and womanhood as good and useful citizens: Lloyd W., Gus A., Mrs. Carl Schmidt, Vera and Edith.

This writer has known her from the date of her marriage as a good wife and mother and well loved by her neighbors. Our first acquaintance with this family was under very distressing circumstances. Her husband and his brother had planted several acres of young trees for a nursery and a hail storm in less than two hours left them so deeply in debt that it took years to recover. But they plucked up courage and besides rearing and educating their children by hard, steady labor, they both left a beautiful home and surroundings.

The funeral was held at the residence, Rev. Kirkpatrick, a Methodist minister of South Omaha, preaching the sermon.

As we had no conveyance, we did not get to the funeral.
