Gus Saum

Gus Saum, a former resident of this vicinity, died at his home in Omaha last Friday after a brief illness of influenza and pneumonia. A child of Mr. Saum’s died with scarlet fever about two weeks ago and the care and worry of this illness rendered Mr. Saum an easy victim of the influenza. Another child died of scarlet fever only a few months ago. Mrs. Otto Kruse is a sister of Mr. Saum. The funeral services were held from the home Sunday afternoon - - Ft. Calhoun Chronicle.

Gus was a member of Co. E. 3rd Nebraska Inf. and served with the editor during the Spanish American war. He was a carpenter by trade and was company artificer. He was a good soldier and has since been a good citizen who will be missed and mourned by many friends.
