ISABEL M. SATHER, 89

Isabel M. Sather, 89, of Blair, died Thursday, March 15, 2001 at Memorial Community Hospital in Blair.

Funeral services were held March 17 at First Lutheran Church in Blair. Services were also held Monday, March 19 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Yankton, S.D. Interment was at the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Yankton.

Isabel Marie (Gere) Sather was born Sept. 8, 1911, in Forestburg, S.D., to Seivert and Bessie (Fouberg) Gere. She graduated from Forestburg High School in 1929, and attended Aberdeen Normal School in Aberdeen, S.D. She graduated from Yankton College in 1967.

She taught elementary education in Forestburg and Lincoln and Grove Schools in Yankton for more than 27 years.

On June 22, 1938, she was married to Thorvald Sather in Forestburg. Following his death in 1987, Mrs. Sather moved to Blair in July, 1989.

Besides her love of teaching, Mrs. Sather loved reading, rosemaling, and family activities. She was very active in Trinity Lutheran and First Lutheran Church. In Blair, she was a member of the Martha Circle, Love Days quilting group and Golden Friends. She was also a member of the book reading club in Blair.

She is survived by five children and their spouses: Sonja and David Dunn of Rochester, Minn.; Leland and Wendy Sather of Ogden, Utah; Marlys and Robert Russell of Marblehead, Mass.; Gordon and Ruth Sather of Blair; and Paul and Linda Sather of Bellevue; 15 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband.

Memorials are suggested to First Lutheran Church in Blair.

Campbell-Aman Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
