After an illness of about nine weeks, Mrs. John Sas, sr., died just before noon on Monday, Dec. 22. The funeral was held at the German Lutheran church at 2 o’clock yesterday afternoon, after which she was tenderly laid to rest beside her husband whose death occurred one year ago lacking 8 days.

Miss Marie Meather was born in Mecklenburg, Germany, Jan. 24, 1825, and came with her parents to this country in 1853. On Sept. 16th of that same year she was married to Mr. John Sas and in 1866 they moved to a farm near Boone, Ia., where the greater part of their married life was spent.

She leaves six children: Mrs. F. L. Parish, Henry, Rudolph, and Fred of this city; William of Des Moines, Ia.; and John who recently went into business at Pender, Neb. She was a woman of remarkably strong character and was held in the highest esteem by all who knew her. She was a devoted and faithful member of the German Lutheran church and her activity will be greatly missed by that body.
