Harlan Stender Died Following Auto Accident

Harlan Stender, of Papillion, Nebraska, died January 4th at the Blair Memorial Community Hospital. Mr. Stender had been one of the persons injured in a two car accident the evening of January 1st.

Mrs. Stender suffered multiple injuries in the head in an accident with an auto belonging to James McKinnelly of Council Bluffs. A passenger in the McKinnelly auto, Jim Johnson of Neligh, Nebraska was also injured. The McKinnelly auto reportedly passed some cars, swung back into his own lane and then lost control and veered back into the lane of the south bound Stender auto. McKinnelly was originally charged with improper passing.

Washington County Attorney, Roy I. Anderson, was preparing to file charges of motor vehicle homicide against McKinnelly following the Stender death. The charges have not been filed as yet due to a question as to the cause of Stender’s death. At the time of the accident Mr. Stender did not appear to be seriously injured. It has been determined that Mr. Stender had a diabetic condition that may have been the cause of death.
