Ralph R. Rathjen, 94

Ralph R. Rathjen, 94, of Fort Calhoun, died on Tuesday, February 19, 2013, in Blair.

Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, February 23, at Sievers-Sprick Funeral Home in Fort Calhoun. Visitation will begin at noon Saturday at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Fort Calhoun Cemetery.

Ralph R. Rathjen was born Dec. 8, 1918, in Washington County to Hans Henry Rathjen and Catherine "Katie" Ethel (Frahm) Rathjen.

He grew up on the farm and attended Plainview School District 56 through the eighth grade. He farmed from 1972 to the 1990s, worked at construction with his brother-in-law, George Flink, and also worked as a carpenter, brick layer and welder.

Mr. Rathjen rode a motorcycle and also bought an airplane in the 1950s and flew his plane, Aerouca, for a few years.

He is survived by sisters, Marjorie (Rathjen) Flink of Blair, Vernice Rathjen of Stuart and Helen Rathjen of Omaha.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Faith Rathjen; and brother-in-law, George Flink.
