Merton S. Winchell Died Friday At Tekamah Home

Merton S. Winchell, a lifetime resident of the Blair area, died last Friday at the senior citizen’s home in Tekamah. He was 90 years of age.

He was born in Blair January 22, 1886 to John and Sophromi Winchell, grew to manhood here. He was married to Etta Nielson on January 1, 1917. They made their home in Blair.

He was a contractor and builder known as Jones & Winchell. Starting in 1918, he farmed for 30 years.

In 1946, he moved back to Blair and built several more homes.

He is survived by his wife, Etta and by a daughter, Mrs. Kenneth Thompson, of Herman. There are four grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. at the Bendorf Funeral Home. The Rev. Gordon Patterson will conduct the service and burial will be made under the direction of the Bendorf Funeral Home.

The pallbearers are: Ernie Schmidt, Jim Scheffler, Emmett Rogert, Walter Novak, Vernon VanHorn and Kelly Ryan.
