Christopher Schafer died at his home on the farm, six miles southwest of this city, at 2:25 o’clock last Thursday afternoon, and the funeral was conducted from the home at 1 p.m. Saturday by Rev. Motter, of the Kennard Christian church. Interment was made in the Kennard cemetery.

Mr. Schafer was born in Germany, Nov. 19, 1827, and was married to Miss Henrietta Wedler in 1858. They came to America in 1861 and lived in Michigan for eight years, when they came to this county and two years later located on the farm where his death occurred.

He leaves a wife and five children: Robert, who recently moved to Kalispell, Mont.; A.F., who is in business in Kennard; F.L., who lives on the old farm; Mrs. John Burgess, all in Kennard, and Mrs. Ed Thomas, of Tekamah. The writer lived as a neighbor and knew him to be a good and kindly man, who was held in high esteem by all who knew him.
