ELMER SCHAFER PASSED AWAY ON OCTOBER 16th

Details were only recently received about the death of Elmer Schafer, 45, well-known Fort Calhoun resident who passed away on Monday, October 16th. Mr. Schafer passed away at the Blair Hospital after suffering a stroke on Sunday, October 15th.

Funeral services were held on October 18th at the Fort Calhoun Presbyterian Church, with Reverent Keith Sackett officiating. Burial was in the Fort Calhoun Cemetery. Sievers Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Elmer Schafer was a long-time resident of Fort Calhoun, and was well-respected in the community. He was a member of the Fort Calhoun American Legion and the Fire Department, and served as part-time police officer, in addition to his regular position working with the County.

Mr. Schafer is survived by his wife, Opal; two sons, Frank and Lawrence, of Fort Calhoun; and one daughter, Pat, at home. His father, Frank W. Schafer, of Neola, Iowa, also survives, in addition to 3 grandchildren.
