WILMA L. SCHAFER, 80

Former Arlington resident Wilma L. Schafer, 80, of Fremont, died Sunday, March 31, 2002, at the Fremont Area Medical Center.

Funeral services are 10:30 a.m. Thursday, April 4, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, north of Arlington, with Rev. Rick Kanoy officiating. Interment will be at St. Paul’s Cemetery. Visitation began Wednesday at Reckmeyer-Moser Funeral Home, and will also be held at the church on Thursday one hour prior to services.

Wilma L. Schafer was born Aug. 27, 1921, in Arlington to William and Olga (Schmidt) Hoeneman. She grew up in the Arlington area. Prior to her marriage, she kept house and cared for children for several Arlington families.

On April 8, 1951, she married Curtis C. Schafer at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. The couple farmed near Leslie, MO., until moving to the Arlington area in 1957. The couple moved to Fremont in July 2001.

Mrs. Schafer was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, and was a member of the Elkhorn Riverview Extension Club.

She is survived by her husband, Curtis; a son and daughter-in-law, Harold and Deb Schafer of Nickerson; three daughters and a son-in-law, Carolyn and Dean Maurer of Fremont, and Linda and Marlene Schafer, both of Omaha; three brothers and a sister-in-law, Marvin and Ruth Hoeneman of Craig, Elmer Hoeneman of Omaha and Raymond Hoeneman of Nickerson; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Elna Hoenemann of Fremont and Florence and Gerald Kuss of Kearney and three grandsons.

She was preceded in death by a son, Mark Schafer.

Memorials are suggested to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, The Lutheran Hour, and the Nebraska Children’s Home at Omaha.

Reckmeyer-Moser Funeral Home in Arlington is in charge of arrangements.
