M. E. Winset Funeral Held

ARLINGTON ELECTRIC SHOMAN, 69, DIES; METHODIST RITES HELD

Mell E. Winset, 69, operator of an electric shop in Arlington for over 35 years, died at 3 a.m. last Thursday at his home, following a lengthy illness. His wife has been the Arlington news correspondent for the Pilot-Tribune for a number of years.

Funeral services were held at the Arlington Methodist Church Saturday afternoon, the Rev. David Simpson of Omaha officiating. Interment was in Arlington Cemetery.

Miss Lucy Lawson, Mrs. Alvin Anderson and W. Therlo Reckmeyer sang during the rites. Pallbearers were Mr. Winset’s grandsons, Melvin, Merle, Leslie and Allen Sorensen and Elmer Bartlett, all of Arlington, and Ralph Nicholas of Grand Island.

Mr. Winset was born at Eldora, Ia., Feb. 4, 1878, and moved with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jacob C. Winset to a farm near Spencer, Ia., when he was a small boy. He was married to Mary C. Offeron on Apr. 16, 1899. The couple moved to Blair in 1911, where he served as superintendent of the local light plant. The Winsets moved to Arlington in 1912 and he later conducted an electrical contracting business until retiring about eight months ago due to ill health.

Mr. Winset was a member of the Methodist Church for more than 50 years, and also belonged to the I.O.O.F. lodge for many years.

Surviving are his widow, Mary; three daughters, Mrs. Vern Nicholas of Grand Island, Mrs. Louis Rankin, Jr., of Omaha and Mrs. Chris Sorensen, Arlington; a son, Clarence Winset of Arlington; 18 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a brothers, V. J. Winset of Windsor, Calif.; and a sister, Mrs. John Skow of Minneapolis. A son, Curtis, preceded him in death 27 years ago.
