HELEN SCHAKAT

Services for Helen Schakat, 60, of Fremont, who died Sunday, December 1, 1985, at the Skilled Care Center in Fremont, will be held Thursday, December 5, 1 p.m. at the First Lutheran Church in Fremont. The Rev. Robert Hansen and Rev. Mark Grorud will officiate. Burial will be in the Flower Hill Cemetery, south of Bennington.

A prayer service will be held Wednesday, December 4, at Ludvigsen Mortuary in Fremont, the Rev. Norman Schroeder of St. John’s Lutheran Church at Bennington.

Mrs. Schakat was born March 28, 1925, daughter of Tom and Rose Rasmussen of Omaha. She married Clarence Schakat in Omaha on February 16, 1947.

Before her marriage and for a short time after, she worked as a bookkeeper for the Paxton-Gallager Company.

The couple farmed in the Bennington-Kennard area until they moved to Fremont in 1984.

She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Bennington, where she taught Sunday School and was past president of the LCW.

Mrs. Schakat was also a former 4-H leader in Washington County, as well as past president of the Washington County Extension Board. She was also a member of the Bennington American Legion Auxiliary.

Survivors include her husband; one son, Les of Columbus; three daughters, Mrs. Robert (Linda) Hudec of Fremont, Mrs. Victor (Joyce) Harms and Joan Schakat, both of Omaha; her mother; one brother, Robert L. Rasmussen of Omaha; two sisters, Mrs. Glen (Rosella) Price of Woodbine, Iowa, and Mrs. Mildred Silva of Omaha; and nine grandchildren.

Ludvigsen Mortuary of Fremont is in charge of arrangements.
