Janelle A. Schakat, 56, of Blair, died Tuesday, April 29, 2008, at Methodist Hospital in Omaha.

Funeral services are 10 a.m. Saturday, May 3, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Fremont. Interment will be at St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery, north of Arlington.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, May 2, at Reckmeyer-Moser Funeral Home in Arlington, with the family receiving friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Visitation will also be held at the church on Saturday, one hour prior to services.

Janelle A. Sperling was born Oct. 14, 1951, in Fremont to Elmer and Helen (Vogt) Sperling. She grew up at Arlington and attended St. Paul’s Lutheran School and graduated in 1969 from Arlington High School.

She worked in the purchasing department at the State Capitol in Lincoln. She attended Kearney State College, where she graduated magna cum laude with an accounting degree.

On Aug. 22, 1970 she married Leslie P. Schakat in Arlington.

Mrs. Schakat lived in Columbus from 1977 to 1996 and worked at Sand Systems from 1991 to 1996. She then moved to Blair, and was employed at AGP in Omaha, and later at Consolidated Container Corp. in Omaha.

She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Fremont, and a former member of Peace Lutheran Church in Columbus and Trinity Lutheran Church in Blair.

She is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Timothy Schakat of Blair and Jeffrey and Vicki Schakat of Fremont; two grandchildren; three brothers and a sister-in-law, Leon and Marge Sperling of Fremont, Jerome Sperling and David Sperling, both of Arlington; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Arlene and Don Reed of Las Vegas, Nev., and Sheryl and George Lively of Cedar Bluffs; nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leslie, in 2003; her parents; a brother, Wesley Sperling; and a niece, Michelle Tawney.

Memorials are suggested to Trinity Lutheran School or the American Cancer Society.
