Red Woodard, 91

Funeral services for Howard (Red) Woodard, 91, of Blair will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, at First United Methodist Church, with burial in the Blair Cemetery.

Howard died suddenly at Good Shepherd Home May 17, 1988.

He was born May 6, 1897, at Earling, Iowa, to James E. and Rose (Hinkle) Woodard.

He served in the Armed forces during World War I.

He married Helen Nelson in Iowa in 1920. They moved to Blair in 1921 from Earling, where he farmed for over 50 years east of Blair on the Grimm farm.

He was a lifetime member of the Hain Flynn American Legion, and resided at Good Shepherd for the last five and a half years.

He is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Phyllis Carson; Mrs. Ross (Doris) Nicholson, both of Blair; Mrs. Virginia Welch, Denver, Colorado, and Mrs. Hazel Stubbs, Loves Park, Illinois; three sons, Jim of Blair, Russell of Jefferson, Iowa, and Howard of South Gate, California; 15 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, 5 step-grandchildren and 11 step-great-granchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and six brothers and sisters.

Serving as pallbearers will be grandsons, Michael J. Woodard; Richard L. Rowe; Edwin P. Stubbs; Bob Gladwin; David E. Gladwin; Scott M. Nicholson, and Kent C. Nicholson.

Memorials may be directed to the Good Shepherd Home or the American Cancer Society.

Campbell Funeral Home in Blair is handling the arrangements.
