Leo D. “Woody” Woodcock, 73

Leo D. Woodcock, 73, of Fremont, died Saturday, Feb. 23, 2002, at the Fremont Area Medical Center. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 26, at the Arlington Community Church. The Rev. Lynn Martin will officiate. Interment will be at the Arlington Cemetery.

The United States flag will be folded and presented by members of V.F.W. Post No. 8332 and American Legion Post No. 71 of Arlington.

Visitation began Monday, and will continue at the church for one hour prior to services on Tuesday.

Leo D. “Woody” Woodcock was born March 23, 1928, in Morse Bluff to Henry and Clara (Stanley) Woodcock, Jr.

He moved to Fremont in 1934.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from Oct. 26, 1950 to July 25, 1952, where he served in the 3rd Infantry Division in Korea. He received the Korean Service Medal with three Bronze Stars and the Combat Infantry Badge.

After his discharge, he worked as a farm laborer for his uncle, David Woodcock, in the Fremont, Nickerson, and Fontanelle area. In 1959, he started work for Marshall’s Nurseries and was employed there for 25 years.

He lived in Arlington from 1959 until 1986, before moving back to Fremont, and was a former member of American Legion Post No. 71, of Arlington.

He is survived by a brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Delores Ann Woodcock of Arlington, and nieces and nephews.
