Arlington Man Is Killed In Auto – Truck Accident

A 30 year old Arlington man, Marvin F. Woodcock, was critically injured in an auto accident Saturday morning east of Fremont. Mr. Woodcock passed away Saturday morning at the Dodge County Hospital in Fremont. The accident reportedly happened as Mr. Woodcock was attempting to pass a truck.

Mr. Woodcock is survived by his wife Carole Jean, son Jerry and a daughter, Jodi, all of Fremont. Other surviving include his father, Henry Woodcock of Fremont; a sister, Mrs. Howard “Betty” Toy, of Fremont; three brothers, Leo of Arlington; Donald of Schuyler, and Richard of Tekamah.

Services were at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the First Methodist Church in Arlington. Rev. Leo Zillig officiated with Wm. Reckmeyer and son in charge of arrangements. Burial was in the Arlington Cemetery with a Military Service.

Casket Bearers were Alvin Hand, LeRoy Hand, David Jasa, David Musiel, Larry Woodcock and Kenneth Dale Kruger.

Mrs. Jack Cady provided the vocal music with Mrs. Farnum Franzenburg at the organ.

According to State Patrolman Fay Robeson of Fremont, an east bound car driven by Woodcock was in collision with the rear end of a semi-trailer cattle truck driven by Thomas L. Herrboldt of rural Scotland, S.D.

Robeson said Herrboldt did not apply his brakes immediately after the collision for fear of wedging Woodcock’s auto further under his truck. As a result, the Woodcock auto was dragged “some distance,” according to the patrolman. He estimated that the Woodcock auto was totally destroyed.

The accident occurred about 1:30 a.m. Saturday. The Fremont rescue squad was called to take Woodcock to the hospital.
