ELMER “RED” SCHEER, 80

Elmer “Red” Scheer, age 80, of Fremont died at his home in Fremont Friday, July 15th.

Funeral service was Monday, July 18th in Fremont at Trinity Lutheran Church with the Rev. Donald Levenhagen officiating. Burial was in Fremont’s Memorial Cemetery.

Memorials in his memory may be given to Trinity Lutheran Church.

Elmer was born August 12, 1907 near Fontanelle, Nebraska. His parents were Herman and Mathilda (Jacob) Scheer. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church north of Arlington. He attended St. John’s College in Winfield, Kansas. He was a distributor for a major oil company for 30 years, retiring in 1972. He had lived in the Fremont area all his life.

Elmer was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church of Fremont and the Lutheran Layman’s League. He was also a member of the Fremont Kiwanis Club and a former member of the Fremont Volunteer Fire Department.

On December 29, 1935, he was married to the former Mabel Scheer of Arlington at the home of her parents.

Survivors include his wife Mabel, 4 daughters – Mrs. Ian (Sharon) Robertson of Loveland, Colo.; Mrs. Don (Diane) Eidam of Edina, Minn.; Mrs. Don (Connie) Moeller of Grand Island, Nebr.; Mrs. David (Cynthia) Tegt of Dallas, Tex.; 10 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild; 1 brother, Arthur “Barney” Scheer of Fremont.

His parents, 3 brothers, and 1 sister preceded him in death.

Visitation was on Sunday, July 17th, at the Ludvigsen Mortuary.
