Donald Woodworth, 80

Hastings resident Donald Woodworth, 80, died May 28, 2002, at his home. Funeral services were held May 31 at First United Methodist Church in Hastings, with the Rev. Dr. Sam Rathod officiating. Interment was at Fort McPherson National Cemetery in Maxwell.

Donald Woodworth was born July 18, 1921, in Craig to William and Lilly (Carlson) Woodworth.

He attended Dana College from 1939 to 1941, and served in the U.S. Navy from 1943 to 1946.

On July 21, 1946, he married Lyla Guyer of Blair, daughter of H. Lyle and Viva Guyer. The Woodworths moved to Denver, Colo., where they lived for 50 years. They built and operated a private preschool in Denver called Happy Valley Children’s Ranch. They moved to Hastings in 1997.

Mr. Woodworth was a member of the First United Methodist Church, where he was a Stephen Minister. He was also a volunteer at Alcott School in Hastings.

He is survived by his wife, Lyla; a son, Lane Woodworth of St. Francis, Kansas; two daughters and a son-in-law, Paige and Kevin Wycoff of Hastings and Arden Woodworth of Littleton, Colo.; a sister, Lois Reed of Sun City, Ariz.; and three grandsons.

He was preceded in death by one brother.

Butler-Volland Funeral Home in Hastings was in charge of arrangements.
