SERVICES HELD FOR FARMER GREGORY SCHEER by Julia McCord, World-Herald Staff Writer

Gregory Scheer found plenty of ways to get involved.

The Washington County farmer and livestock producer was active in a range of church, community and professional organizations.

Scheer died Sunday at Clarkson Hospital in Omaha, five days after a propane tank exploded in a building where he was working.

He was 36.

Scheer was a member of the American Angus Association, Nebraska Angus Association, Nebraska Cattlemen’s Association, 4-H Council and 4-H Fair Board.

Scheer was born June 24, 1965, in Blair, Neb., and grew up in rural Arlington.

He attended St. Paul Lutheran School north of Arlington and graduated from Arlington High School in 1983. He graduated from the University of Nebraska School of Technical Agriculture in Curtis, Neb., in 1985.

A lifelong member of St. Paul Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod, Scheer had a strong faith in God, said his sister-in-law, LeeAnn Scheer of Raleigh, N.C.

Scheer also had a generous spirit, warm smile and great sense of humor, she said.

Services for Scheer were held Wednesday at St. Paul Lutheran Church.

Survivors include his wife, Sherone; four sons, Cord, Emmitt, Taylor and Sam, all at home; his parents, Dalvin and Betty Scheer of Arlington; two brothers, Todd Scheer of Raleigh and Bruce Scheer of Arlington; and a grandmother, LeNora Scheer of Arlington.

Gregory W. Scheer, 36, of rural Blair, died Sunday, Jan. 13, 2002 at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha.

Funeral services were Wednesday, Jan. 16, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, north of Arlington. The Rev. Rick Kanoy officiated. Interment was at St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery.

Gregory W. Scheer was born June 24, 1965, in Blair to Dalvin and Betty Scheer. He lived his life in the rural Arlington area, attended St. Paul’s Lutheran School, and was a 1983 graduate of Arlington High School. He graduated from the University of Nebraska STA at Curtis in 1985. He was a farmer and raised livestock.

On Aug. 24, 1985, he married Sherone Fuehrer at Fremont.

Mr. Scheer was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, north of Arlington; served on the St. Paul’s School Board and the Parents and Teachers League; was a member of the American Angus Association, Nebraska Cattlemen’s Association, 4-H Council, and the 4-H Fair Board; was active in the Mid-States Rodeo Association and was secretary and treasurer of the Fontanelle Township Board.

He is survived by his wife, Sherone, and four sons, Cord, Emmitt, Taylor and Sam, all at home, his parents, Dalvin and Betty Scheer of rural Arlington, two brothers and sisters-in-law, Todd and LeeAnn Scheer of Raleigh, N.C. and Bruce and Marj Scheer of Arlington, brother-in-law, Scott Fuehrer of Norfolk, grandmother, LeNora Scheer of Arlington, and parents-in-law, Cal and Marlene Fuehrer of Grand Island.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Oscar W. Scheer and Charles and Agnes McGahey.

Reckmeyer Moser Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
