Bernita A. 'Bert' Just, 82

Bernita A. "Bert" Just, 82, of Arlington, died Sunday, December 16, 2012, at Nye Legacy in Fremont.

A memorial service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 15, 2013, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church north of Arlington. There is no visitation. Interment will follow the service at St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery.

Bernita A. Just was born June 3, 1930, to Emil G. and Adella (Schmidt) Just. She lived in Arlington her entire life. She attended Whitford and St. Paul’s Lutheran grade schools and graduated from Arlington High School in May of 1947.

Baptized June 15, 1930, and confirmed May 9, 1943, she was a lifelong member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Arlington and attended services regularly.

She worked at J. C. Penney in Fremont for 45 years from 1948 to 1993.

In later years, she loved to volunteer at the local Arlington Library and the annual Memorial Community Hospital Auxiliary Rummage Sale.

She was passionate about sports and loved to root for Husker football and the Husker volley ball team. She was a member of many Fremont area bowling leagues and in 1989 was voted into the Fremont Bowling Hall of Fame as one of the top bowlers of the year.

Known as Bert to family and friends, she had a kind and generous heart. She was fiercely independent, insisting on compensating anyone for any assistance received. She was a loyal friend, resolutely looking out for the welfare of others before her own. Many were blessed by this amazing prayer warrior who was not only concerned for her family and friends, but was also interested in their extended family, friends, and activities. Her seemingly bottomless love also extended to her cats.

Her house was the center of family gatherings, and she put great effort into preparing Christmas and Thanksgiving feasts. In her earlier days, she also enjoyed baking and often surprised family members with exquisite birthday cakes sculpted to look like golf balls, footballs and castles.

She is survived by one niece, Anne Just of Omaha; and two nephews, Michael Just of Omaha and David Just of Houston, Texas.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Harlen; and sister, Ione (Just) Wilson.

In her memory, gifts may be directed to the Blair Memorial Community Hospital Auxiliary Rummage Sale as a donation of time, contact Laura Willey at 402-426-1494 or lwilley@mchhs.org MCH&HS Volunteer Services, 810 N. 22nd Street, P.O.
